The suspension buttons in the S55 has settings so do most if not all of the W220 line. Check the hoses/lines, strut tops as those years gasket leaks are fairly common after some years, then the valve.Įven if the car lifts itself up, it shouldn't be on the bump stops every 24 hours. A pump that is on it's way out and or weak usually will run and run and run and the care barely rises if at all (assuming the cause wasn't a major hose breakage). If the car rises, then it's safe to assume the pump is working. Holes, especially small easy to miss holes, in the lines can cause uneven leaks and cause the symptoms you have. But this usually results in the car sitting on all four corners. When those things start to go, it sometimes wont hold the air in the suspension like it supposed to and thus after sitting, the air eventually leaks out. If anyone could offer some advice on this it would be much appreciated!!Ĭheck the suspension valve. However, this time when I unlocked the car it sounded like a pump fired up which appeared to be on the offside front (uk spec car). I went out to the car yesterday evening.(the car had been left for 24 hours) and it was in the same state (front suspension on the bump stops).this time I started the car up and it lifted its self and I drove off with no faults or messages on the dash. So I started the car up and pushed the suspension button on the dash and the AIR MATIC SUSPENSION RISING information was displayed on the dash. I thought this a bit strange as that's not the way I'd left it. I've recently purchased an S55 AMG.2000 model with 58,000 genuine miles on the clock.Įverything was going fine with the car but then as of a couple of days ago I came out 1 morning and the front of the car was sitting down on its bump stops. At the end of the day, I say avoid air suspension in general (unless you have a warranty), they always seem to have problems and cost quite a bit to fix, lol. Please bare with me as I'm a Newby to this forum. This is just my 2¢ and guess as to why, but there’s likely a more elaborate and detailed explanation. In the case of the C class, it likely has springs in addition to the air suspension in the front to make it handle more sportily compared to the E and S which prioritize a boatier ride with overall passenger comfort and isolation in mind. In regard to the springs, you’ll almost always find them in the rear suspension to help the air system support a load. Usually, you’ll see heavier-duty suspension components (also applies to brakes) on the front of a vehicle as it has to support the fixed weight of the powertrain and other associated components whereas the rear suspension will be lighter-duty components as it only needs to support a variable load. I believe it all depends on the weight distribution of the vehicle. Whereas this diagram of the W211 E class has what appears to be very different air shock designs at the front and rear: Īnd this diagram of the new EQE has the same design at front and rear but the rear shocks are much thinner: Īnd the 2015 C class estate seems to use the same shocks front and rear, but springs have been added to just the front axle? This picture of the suspension system in the W223 S class has the same sized air shocks at all 4 wheels: Will my husband divorce me if I dehydrate tomatoes in his F-150 truck?ĭennis Collins, a Highway Accident Investigator at the National Transportation Safety Boardįor example, even looking at just Mercedes Airmatic systems, The wonderful and epic tale of Yoshi the Yarisįorget the trunk monkey, check out trash pandas.
